Rocco’s Tacos

How did I go so long without a review of this noisy, crowded, in-your-face restaurant, and I mean that all in a good way.

Located at 224 Clematis Street, with very comfortable indoor and outdoor seating, you can’t miss the hordes of people enjoying the very popular Rocco’s Tacos, whether for a full meal, a liquid meal of one or more pitchers of their flavorful margaritas, or at the bar where there is always a party scene.  As you pass it on the street and maneuver between the tables, you can’t help but notice what a fun time everyone is having.

This is not your typical Tex Mex establishment.  From the decor of Mexican movie posters and masks on a  brick wall, to the innovative menu of  authentic Mexican fare where Rocco has added some signature twists to the dishes, this is the real deal.

At the start, you can request the homemade guacamole, prepared tableside with all the fresh ingredients, as a dip for Rocco’s spicy chips. I can personally recommend a few of the appetizers including the Ensalada Mixta, Ensalada Fresca, and the Tortilla Soup (a BIG from hubby).  I recently tried the Ceviche (marinated seafood) which was especially tasty.

The main course can consist of some very interesting taco combinations (of course), enchiladas, or various special entrees.  They make a wonderful Chilaquiles, and I can also vouch for their excellent Chile Rellenos.

If you want to stick to soft drinks, there are the usual suspects, as well as assorted flavors of Mexican sodas.  But if you’re in the mood to get your buzz on, there is all manner of margaritas, tequilas, sangria, wine and cervezas (get out that Spanish dictionary!).

Here’s their menu for all the descriptions of some unique offerings:  Rocco’s Tacos

And if you’re still going strong as the clock winds down, there is a late night menu sure to please.  There’s been more than one night when we’ve literally closed down Rocco’s Tacos, sitting outside people-watching, and enjoying our second (or was it our third  ) pitcher of margaritas.  This is also how we discovered the very nutritious Pomegranate and we vote that as the best margarita flavor in the bunch.

Hang out alone, with someone special, or get the whole gang together for an evening at Rocco’s Tacos.

P.S.  One of these days, when no one is looking, I’m going to abscond with one of the chandeliers!
