Grease Burger Bar

Newbie on the block!!   Located at 213 Clematis Street, in the spot where Nobles had been situated, now stands the Grease Burger Bar.   So, of course, we were anxious to sample their goods.

I don’t know if the front area has changed much — a very L-O-N-G bar and high top tables lining the opposite wall.  Also several TVs, giving it the feel of a sports bar.  After a L-O-N-G walk to the back, we found a few scattered tables and a couch/lounge curving along the back wall with individual tables and chairs opposite (what I sometimes call a half booth.)  If you sit at the very corner table, as we did, two people can both sit on the “couch.”   There is a fireplace in the back where two of the servers were warming themselves as it was one of those chilly evenings.

Don’t let the name put you off!   Aren’t all good burgers a greasy delight?   And once you dig in, you’ll be using the cloth “dish towel” provided and asking for many more napkins.  As it should be.

The bun is toasty, and the burger is first rate.  Aside from the usual toppings — tomato, onion, etc. — you can add a few of your own, e.g. we opted for some bacon.   The fries are a whole other meal in itself.  We ordered the sweet potato fries and the OMG cheese fries.  The plates were ginormous, and we committed the ultmate sin by having to leave some of each.   I happen to be a big fan of adding salt and ketchup to regular fries, but, trust me, neither of these needed any embellishment.

As for beverages, we ordered milkshakes, delicious and refreshing, served in a small glass with the remainder in the milkshake container. (Note: just be sure it’s fully mixed because I did find a huge blob of ice cream at the bottom of the container, which had to be added and stirred to achieve the full zing.) However, for you beer aficionados, there is a blackboard that fills the entire back wall with brands and flavors, some of which may be foreign to even the most enthusiastic beer enthusiast.   I’m not much of a beer drinker (they all taste the same to me, oops, ducking from being hit by a wet noodle from all you connoisseurs) but even I may one day try one of those interesting sounding concoctions.

So our evening meal ended with satisfied tummies and cheers to a good burger joint, which may also become a good bar hangout.  Maybe next time, trying to save a few calories, I’ll try one of their other menu choices, perhaps a dinner salad…NAH!

If you do order milkshakes, ask them for one of those long ice-cream spoons!

think the price point and burgers at GREASE on Clematis are good, and that the place has a lot of potential. BUT – the service is 100% terrible. Its like they hired wait staff that ate lead paint chips as kids. I went there last Sunday, sat at a table for 15 minutes, waiter passing several time, and zero service/acknowledgment. I just got up and left – gave my money to [another] less-expensive burger joint.
