Clematis Social

A Happy and Healthy New Year to One and All!

Wanting to start the new year with a new experience, we sauntered over to Clematis Social for dinner.  There were a few people at the bar, but we were the only ones sitting down for a meal, and the very friendly and enthusiastic staff were happy to welcome us.

The menu (quoting directly from it) is designed to promote socializing and sharing among friends. It consists of Big Plate choices (i.e. regular entrees), but mainly is divided into different categories of Small Plates, served tapas style.  It is a very interesting and appetizing concept, and this is the option we chose in order to sample a variety of plates.  The presentation of each dish is both eye-catching and mouth-watering.

We started with French Onion Soup Dumplings — kudos to the chef for his imagination.  Several dumplings are infused with a little soup, each dumpling placed in a little slot in the plate and covered with melted cheese as in a regular onion soup.  WOW!  Our other “appetizers” included California Rolls, a l-o-n-g platter of several delicious sushi servings; Spring Rolls with a delicious dipping sauce; and Clematis Cheese Toast, several bits of toast covered in a mixed blend of melted cheese.  All of this made for a very satisfying and lip-smacking meal.

Not wanting to begrudge ourselves of dessert, we were prepared to order the Mile High Chocolate Cake (to share, of course), until we were informed that it really was almost a mile high and probably needs half a dozen people to finish it.  We switched to the chocolate fondue, served alongside a tray loaded with strawberries, bananas, pineapple, bits of pound cake, and HOMEMADE marshmallows for dipping.  We just stared at it a few minutes, and then dug in.  We were happy campers!

Needless to say, I give this a hearty recommendation.    In this reviewer’s opinion, Clematis Social would be a great environment for another “610″ get-together to socialize.  We may even be able to finish that Mile High Chocolate Cake.   *Hint Hint* to the Social Committee to consider Clematis Social.
